Listography - Top 5 Inspirational Women

Tomorrow Sat 8th March is International Women's Day. A day dedicated to the wonder and glory of womankind - hard not to get behind something so heartwarming isn't it? Of course there are the naysayers and the more serious side of feminism in the 21st Century all tied up in it but I like to bring it back to basics. Wonderful women who have inspired me in my life.

So here we go - my top 5 inspirational women.

1. Camila Batmanghelidjh

CAMILLA BATMANGHELIDJH

The very first woman who springs to mind - and no wonder. Her work with Kids Company is nothing short of genius. She is like a surrogate mother to thousands of disadvantage kids who have no one else to look after them. I was lucky enough to meet her once and she oozes love and humility.

2. My sister
INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN

My sister collected an OBE this week. A fecking OBE! Mental. She set up Netmums over 10 years ago after suffering from PND and realising that thousands of other mothers around the country had no support network when they stepped into the unknown world of motherhood. Netmums now gets over 5 million visitors a month but still retains the ethos of helping mothers whoever or where ever they are. You can read how it all happened here.

3. My mother
I often wish I was as good a mother as my mother was. Raising 5 kids with almost never raising her voice. How on earth did she do it?

4. Penny and Co.

My lovely blogger friends Penny, Annie and Tanya formed Team Honk last year to help raise money for Sport Relief. Last year we climbed a mountain, this year they have gone above and beyond what anyone imagined. They are currently in Tanzania talking to other inspirational women who are using whatever they have to give their children a better life. You can read about their escapades here.

5. Hollie McNish
I may have a girl crush on this lady. A spoken word poet she takes on matters like emigration, feminism, breastfeeding and so much more. She manages in 3 minute bursts to get a fire blazing in your belly and makes you want to share her brilliance with every person you meet.
It's hard to choose just one of her posts but try this for size...

So that's my five. Not so much the ball breakers and glass ceiling crashers as the nurturers, the carers, the women supporting other women. Can't change the world? Change your world. These women did and the ripples are spreading far and wide.

That's pretty inspirational I'd say.
