Wine Isle Part II - The tastings

Before Christmas I did a vlog about the wonderful delivery I received from the fabulous folk at Wine Isle. If you haven't had the pleasure of taking a trip over there yet I'd highly recommend it. Great site, great wines, great prices, great service. From my experience I really couldn't fault it.

We were sent the Wine Isle Taster Pack - a case of 12 wines, 6 white and 6 red that have been individually selected by Wine Isle's experts.

With a little help from our friends we've finally made our way through them all and here are our thoughts -though of course these our just our personal views and we are by no means experts - you'll have to try them out yourself to see what you think yourself...

The wines:

We tasted all the wines without looking up the prices so that we could give them a fair trial.

Red:
Shiraz / Mataro Some Young Punks £13.90
Pinot Noir Viña Ventisquero £8.25
Cabernet Franc Domaine Mas Barrau £7.75
Francos DFJ Vinhos £19.95
Chateau Cambon Beaujolais £12.70
Corbieres Cuvee Classique £9.95

White:
Sylvaner Cave de Turckheim £9.25
Picpoul de Pinet Château de la Mirande  £8.70
Gaillac Blanc Perle £8.95
Gewürztraminer Dr Loosen £9.35
Alvarinho DFJ Vinhos £7.99
Xarel-Lo Mas Macià £8.95

It was such a delight pulling a new wine out of the box each time - not knowing what it would be like, how much it cost or how we would rate it. The wines were mostly really great value for money, although I have to say that the Picpoul de Pinet Château de la Mirande didn't agree with me and was given only a one star rating.

However to make up for that the Francos DFJ Vinhos exceeded all expectations and received a well deserved 5 stars. Typical that I managed to pick the most expensive one of them all without knowing it. What can I say? I'm a lady with expensive tastes obviously. But I'm worth it of course ;). Luckily you can avail of a great deal on this wine at the moment as it is featured as one of the sites 'Merchant Dozen' offers (buy 12 for the price of 11). And if you do go for the offer be sure to invite me around for the grand tasting.

As mainly red wine drinkers the other surprise treats for us were the Alvarinho DFJ Vinhos and the Sylvaner Cave de Turckheim - both whites that went down a little too well and had us squeezing the bottles at the end in the hope of getting an extra drop out. (It didn't work).

The Pinot Noir Viña Ventisquero and the Cabernet Franc Domaine Mas Barrau were also rated well by our novice noses.

So a huge thank you to Wine Isle for the Taster Pack experience. Highly recommended by this particular wine lover.

A dream delivery from Wine Isle

Sometimes this work is tough. Really tough. Sometimes I have to put aside my clean living for the good of others and write about.....wine.

Of course I couldn't write about it without tasting it first though - so Wine Isle sent me this:

Wine Isle Taster Pack

Want to see what's inside? Here we go!

The beauty of Wine Isle is that all of the wines are handpicked by experts in the business who have whittled down their portfolio of wines to 100 of the very best.

It's a fantastically designed site with some great novelty extras such as a 'Passport' that gets stamped each time you buy and to which you can add your comments and scores, and an interactive map that allows you to read all about the producers of each wine and lets you click through to their own websites.

There are wines ranging from £5.99 to £85.90 and you can buy just one bottle or multiple cases.

If you like your wines I can assure you could happily while away an evening or ten on there.

Over the next few days weeks I, along with my good friends, (of which there seem to be many at the moment...), will test all the wines supplied and give our verdict on each of them.

Some of the 12.

If you'd like to join in the fun take a trip over to Wine Isle and enjoy a 'virtual vacation to a beautiful Isle of 100 wines, handpicked by our resident wine experts from an already handpicked portfolio of 400. These are the best of the best - guaranteed to please the palate and the pocket.'

Tasting notes for each wine
Cheers!
