Listography: Top 5 films on Netflix

As part of the Netflix Stream Team I was lucky enough to be sent out an Apple TV and yearly subscription to the wonderful Netflix. The Apple TV simply allows you to connect to Netflix via your internet connection - but this can be done through lots of devices such as DVD and blu-ray players or some gaming consoles. For more on the techy bits click here.

Since returning to Ireland we have a very basic Sky package that the kids are extremely unimpressed with - so being hooked up to Netflix has gone down very well indeed. Next month the kids are going to give you their own Top 5 films from there - but this month it's my turn.

If you'd like to join in with your own suggestions please come back and linky up below. With the colder weather on the way and the pennies being put away for Christmas I need all the suggestions I can get.

So with no further ado - here are my Top 5 Films on Netflix (as discovered do far)

1. Drop Dead Fred.
I could barely contain my excitement when I saw Drop Dead Fred appear on the menu. Having not watched it for about 20 years I wasn't sure it would live up to expectations. But of course it did. I'm not sure it was such a good idea to let the 5 year old watch it too though. The intro of a gentle bedtime fairy story lulled me into a false sense of security - which the 'what a load of shit!' line from snot-face quickly woke me up from. Naturally the kids were all sold on it immediately.

2. The Royal Tenenbaums.
2 stars! I can't believe this film has only 2 stars on Netflix. There must be a conspiracy. A delight to the eyes and senses - this Wes Anderson's story about a family of eccentrics stars Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow. All in crazy outfits. What's not to like?

3. Fargo
You're darn tootin' it's in my top 5! Impossible to fault. Round of applause to the Coen Brothers once again.

4. Stand By Me
Another movie-I-can't-wait-to-show-the-kids. Starring an impossibly gorgeous and talented young River Phoneix, it's a coming of age story that will stay with you forever. As will the barfing scene unfortunately. Keifer Sutherland as the evil older brother and Corey Feldman as the unfortunate Teddy Duchamp also put in Oscar winning performances.

5. The Godfather
We all know how good it is. We just need to find the spare three hours to watch it.

So what have I missed? Linky up with your favourite Top 5 films currently on Netflix and I'll share every post on Twitter under #streamteam.

Looking forward to reading and watching!

I'm Famous! Plus....Listography

So last week was a bit of a strange one. Having had an article published in the Irish Independent on Wednesday, by Friday I suddenly found myself in the make up room of RTE. (For those outside of Ireland RTE is like the poorer, less professional Irish brother of the BBC). It was only for 10 minutes but it caused great excitement in the Gunn household.

What's she doing in there?

Obviously I was quite brilliant and am now far superior to most of you reading this. The amount of attention I got from my family was extraordinary. Funny how when I'm actually in the room with them I am totally ignored....

Anyway, seeing as it won't be long until I make the leap from small screen to big, (I'm just waiting for the Stephen Speilberg call), and what with the Bafta's being on - I thought it fitting that this week's Listography celebrate some great movies.

So here are Kate Takes 5's Favourite Movies:

1. Jaws

'I think we're gonna need a bigger boat....'.
2. True Romance

Love this movie - always have, always will. Was just reminded of how much by a friend on FB (Hi Emma!!)

3. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

A perfect family movie. Especially since you can threaten the kids with the child catcher as soon as they've seen it. Highly recommended (the film and the threatening)

4. The Big Lebowski

Probably my most watched movie ever. I just never tire of it. Best viewed with alcohol or similar.

5. Happy Gilmore

Just another Adam Sandler comedy I hear you say. To that I give you the film's best line:
Shooter McGavin snears at Happy Gilmore: 'I eat shit like you for breakfast'
Happy Gilmore to Shooter: 'You eat shit for breakfast???'

Classic.

There were better and cooler films I could have put in here. The Godfather I & II, Goodfellas, Dead Man's Shoes...but these are the ones I have a real affiliation to.  Hey don't judge me, it's harder than you think.

Anyway now you know what you need to do. Get your 5 movies on your blog then come back and put your details into the linky below.
Looking forward to reading them!

BTW if you want to see the clip of my debut so that you can say you knew me before I hit the big time then here you go: The Daily Show (about 20 mins in): http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1091488 (only accessible for people in Ireland)
